| HISTORY OF LEAGUE
Half Moon Bay Girls Softball Program (League)
started in 1973. The program was sponsored by
the Half Moon Bay Parks and Recreation
Department. The program was organized by HMB
Parks and Recreation Commissioner
Naomi Patridge because there was a lack of girls
sports programs on the coast. Girls softball was
a summer program because there was a lack
of availability of fields.
The program started with two teams with the ages of the girls ranging from 8-14.
The teams used hand me down uniforms from the Little League. The following year
there were four teams. The uniforms were white blouses and shorts.
After Proposition 13, the HMB Parks and Recreation Department could no longer
sponsor the program any longer. Half Moon Bay Girls Softball Program (League)
became an independent league at that time. It was the only league in San Mateo
County at that time that was affiliated with Amateur Softball Association.
All other San Mateo County leagues were affiliated with Bobby Soxs.
The growth of girls softball is quite apparent.
The league and girls softball has come a long way!
